There to support you
Need some help?
Becoming an employer can sound like a scary option if you have no experience of managing staff and finances. Why not have a chat with somebody who had the same worries as you, but has used Direct Payments for some time now, and see what it's really like!
Peer Support Network
We run a Peer Support network, which is based on the simple idea of a person who has experience and knowledge supporting one who doesn't, and operates through local groups of disabled people. Find out more about joining by emailing jennifer.bose@lcil.info or calling 01772 250 300. The groups hold regular meetings and invite speakers to provide ongoing information and advice about independent Living.
The Lancashire Peer Support Network includes volunteers who are Direct Payments users, parents and carers, all of whom have experience of using and managing Direct Payments. Volunteers are recruited from across the County, and can support anyone who is already in receipt of Direct Payments or thinking of becoming a Direct Payments user. The free assistance they provide can last until you feel confident enough to deal with Direct Payments yourself.
If you feel you would like a the help of volunteer with similar support needs this can be arranged in your area. We can arrange home visits at your convenience, including evening visits, and have regular monthly drop in sessions across Lancashire.
We are now offering free relevant training on personaliation to LCIL volunteers and volunteers from all around the county of Lancashire. For more information please contact us.
Peer Support Volunteers get Arty
The Peer Support Group has been working with Bernie from Prescap to create art, inspired by the theme of Self Directed Support. A lot of lovely work has been created and some images are being used on Community Pathway literature. As well as producing postcards and roll up banners there will be an exhibition at the Harris (date to be confirmed)
The Mayor of Preston visited the Peer Support exhibition 'THE ART OF FREEDOM' on Monday 7th November at Your Prescap's exhibition space at the Fox Centre. This was the second viewing of the exhibition and was very well attended. The art is of a very high quality and enquirers asked how much individual pieces of work cost!
The work will be exhibited at the Harris during their open art exhibition in December.
